The end of the last day. It has a nice apocalyptic ring to it. The International Cricket Council’s (ICC) new proposal to consider curtailing the length of Test matches by one day, from five to four — with an aim to free up space and streamline the calendar from 2023 onwards — has been perceived as a disruptive move in a cricketing world which cleaves all too easily.
