RBI expected to cut rates on December 5

A majority of economists polled by TOI expect the RBI to cut its repo rate — at which the regulator lends to banks — by 25 basis points (100bps = 1 percentage point) to 4.9%. A cut in the repo rate would, however, be immediately transmitted to retail borrowers as the RBI has forced banks to link loans to an external benchmark instead of a self-determined reference rate.

Pilot flying as passenger asked to operate flight

PIO girl sexually assaulted, murdered in US

A 19-year-old student with family roots in Hyderabad was sexually assaulted and strangulated to death on Saturday inside a garage at the University of Illinois, Chicago where she was studying. Police arrested the 26-year-old assailant, Donald Thurman on Sunday from a metro station in Chicago and charged him with first degree murder and aggravated sexual assault.
