Why parties are wooing UP’s most backward sub-castes

In many constituencies, the 76 sub-castes among the most backward castes (MBC) which constitutes 51% of UP’s population play a key role in determining an election result. The emergence of regional parties representing particular castes, and quota have empowered dominant castes among MBCs. However, lower castes are still deprived of the benefits of reservation.

ISIS issues threat to attack India & B’desh

The development comes just a day after Islamic State carried out a minor explosion near a cinema theatre in Dhaka. The minor blast took place near Gulistan theatre around 7.30pm on Monday. Though no casualties were reported as there was some problem with the bomb assembly, a few policemen did sustain injuries in the blast.

SBI's new rules for savings accounts: Key points

Earlier in March, the SBI had announced that it will be linking its savings deposits rates and short-term loans to the RBI's repo rate from May 1 with an aim to ensure faster monetary transmission. The bank further said all cash credit accounts and overdrafts with limits above Rs 1 lakh will also be linked to the benchmark policy rate, plus a spread of 2.25 per cent.
