Failure to stop degradation of Western Ghats worsened Kerala floods

The Centre recognised in March 2014 the need to prevent degradation of the fragile ecology of Western Ghats, but failed to bring 6 states on board for urgent action. As a result, 56,825sqkm of 'ecologically sensitive' area couldnt be earmarked as 'no go' zone for polluting activities and deforestation.
